Walmart Launches Unlimited Grocery Delivery Subscription

Walmart is looking to gain a foothold in the fresh food sector.

The distribution giant is rolling out an unlimited grocery delivery subscription service this fall.

The service will charge an annual fee of $ 98 to allow subscribers to access an unlimited broadcast the same day.

The service will be available in 1,400 stores in 200 markets. By the end of the year, there will be 1,600 stores, more than 50% of the country.

This decision allows the country's largest grocer to rely more on time-pressed customers seeking convenience at a time when Walmart is looking for competitive advantage to compete with Amazon and others to expand the market. fresh produce distribution, one of the fastest growing e-commerce sectors.

"We know this level of comfort has resonance" among our customers, said Tom Ward, senior vice president of digital operations at Walmart USA. "If you need milk, bananas and birthday gifts, it's a fantastic solution."

Grocery services will be supported by local stores and require a minimum order of $ 30. With same day delivery, it takes at least four hours between ordering and delivery.

Buyers can also order online and pick them up for free at their store or on the sidewalk.

About 100,000 items, including fresh foods and staple foods, as well as basic items such as light bulbs and basic toys, can be purchased or delivered to the grocery store.

Walmart will also offer a monthly subscription option for $ 12.95; Customers will still be able to pay a delivery fee of $ 7.95 or $ 9.95 for same day delivery if they decide not to use the subscription service.

About two years ago, its largest competitor, Amazon, bought Whole Food Market Inc. and now offers same-day grocery deliveries to cities. Meanwhile, AmazonFresh costs $ 14.99 per month and is available to Amazon Prime customers, who pay an annual fee of $ 119 in some cities.
