The Washington Redskins are accepting a pamphlet about Aaron Colvin and signed a contract with veteran cornerback Friday just days after his release from the Houston Texans. Colvin, 28, is in his sixth season in the NFL, the top four with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the last two with the Houston Texans.
Colvin started Monday night against the New Orleans Saints, scoring two touchdowns in the second half in the 30-28 loss. Colvin was a scapegoat for the Texans in defeat as the team released him the next day, ending a tumultuous tenure in Houston.
In just 11 games with the Texans, Colvin scored 34 tackles with just one pass in defense, which is a good scratch for the Texans' playoff game against the Colts of Indianapolis last year. That's not exactly what the Texans signed when they gave Colvin a $ 34 million four-year contract in 2018.
Colvin played four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, starting with 25 games and totaling 166 tackles, 14 passovers and a forced fumble before his stint in Houston. According to Pro Football Focus, Colvin only allowed 0.76 yards per coverage snapshot, making it the sixth best among the 34 semi-commas that played at least 200 in the niche. Colvin has cleared 45 captures on 60 targets … but has only allowed one receipt on 10 shots (22nd in NFL).
The Redskins hope to have the 2017 version of Colvin, which should compete with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Fabian Moreau to have time to play cornerback. Quinton Dunbar and Josh Norman are the starters in Washington.
