Let's talk about SNL's most important new member of the cast: Bowen Yang

For about five hours on Thursday afternoon, Bowen Yang was the toast of the Internet and the wider world of comedy.

A hugely talented stand-up comic, SNL writer and podcaster, Yang had just been announced as one of three new star players of Saturday Night Liveand his many fans, peers and heroes were excited about him. Apart from the fact that he will be the first member of the US-Asian cast of the series and a rare LGBTQ presence on the program, it is always refreshing to see an alternative comedy actor win a big break.

For a while, Yang was a hot topic on Twitter, and praise was not lacking.

And then, suddenly, they were not. Because another new SNL Members of the cast began to tend, for the reasons that all comics fear, and inadvertently diverted the whole conversation.

We are not here to plead the vetting process to Saturday Night Live, or give more oxygen to your speech about the cancellation of the culture, but let us finish with a new exciting addition to the show. For anyone who is now aware of Shane Gillis' widespread jokes in light of his controversialHere is a brief overview of Bowen Yang, the new guy to watch for the upcoming season. (Congratulations to other another new actor, Chloe Fineman, also, however. She looks great!)

In his first season writing for SNL, Yang has already written some memorable and funny skits like "Checks", with the host Sandra Oh, with whom he co-wrote Los Espookys' Julio Torres.

He also co-wrote this fun piece in Weekend Update about this intern at the White House who, in a falsified video, appeared to have been assaulted by journalist Jim Acosta. (Remember that? 1000 years ago?)

The writer made an appearance on camera under the name Kim Jong-Un in this episode of Sandra Oh. It's a character we can probably hope he'll pick up in the coming season.

He is obviously quite capable of many other types of characters, as shown in this Comedy Central skit in which he plays a fashion designer.

Here is the comic book doing the stand up of HBO 2 Dope Queens. I would give it about 90% chance that we would see Yang doing Weekend Update weekends that are barely disguised as media during the third episode of the season.

Yang has also created a Twitter account for her strange abilities of lip sync. Here he makes Miranda Priestly from The devil dresses in Prada and this weird Bagel Boss from earlier this summer (remember him?) You can go to the rabbit hole of these videos right here.

Are there still comics with no podcasts? If that's the case, Yang is not one of them. He co-created with another comic Matt Rogers the podcast comedy, Las Culturistas, which in turn gave birth to the unmissable pop culture of a minute: "I do not think so, darling." This segment is so successful that Rogers and Yang visit it regularly, attracting the number of local comedians that they can gather (like any of them) to leave on their own IDTSH Rants.

And finally, Yang is also an actor, with appearances in the movie Is not It Romantic? last spring and part of the upcoming Awkwafina show, Comedy Central.

If you are going to spend part of the day talking about a new SNL cast member, think about the hilarious one who has a lot of exciting things to say more than the one who said the bad things. Congratulations, Bowen. Quick business go look.
