DETROIT – More than 850 Aramark workers in Michigan and Ohio left work Saturday at midnight to improve wages, health care and retirement.

"We have UAW members who work long hours and continue to receive public support," said Gerald Kariem, director of UAW Region 1D. "It's shameful."
According to the UAW, Aramark maintenance agents in Hamtramck, Warren, Flint, Grand Blanc and Parma, Ohio, have signed an extended contract since March 2018.
"Every day, UAW members work and ensure the profitability of these facilities," said Frank Stuglin, director of UAW Region 1. "It's amazing that Aramark has not agreed to negotiate its contributions in good faith."
The main problems concern wages, health insurance ceilings, holidays, job security and pension plans.
"Every day, these UAW members play a crucial role in maintaining these facilities," said Rich Rankin, director of UAW Region 2B. "Aramark must provide these workers with fair wages and benefits."
