The performance mode of Borderlands 3 is so bad that a new report recommends keeping it at 30 frames per second

The performance of Borderlands 3 on the improved consoles is disappointing.

Borderlands 3The technical state of the computer on PC is already rough, thanks to a set of problems that are not so familiar to fans of the series.

On consoles, however, things seem to be in worse shape. The great functionality of Borderlands 3 on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X gives players the choice of resolution and performance modes. The first locks the frame rate to 30 fps, thus increasing visual clarity, while the latter removes the rendering resolution in favor of a 60 fps target.

Unfortunately, as a new Digital Foundry analysis reveals, it might be better to stick to the 30 fps resolution mode.

According to the report, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X run at 3200 × 1800 in resolution mode and 1080p in performance mode. Although the visual presentation is generally similar to each other, the report has detected some anomalies, such as lower anisotropic filtering on Xbox One X.

Performance mode, however, seems a little disastrous on both consoles. On Xbox One X, the framerate falls to the 50s in combat, never adhering to the 60 fps lens in less turbulent times. More interestingly, the cadence rate is off, with nonsense and other inconsistencies.

The PS4 Pro suffers from the same problems, though it seems to have larger framerate declines due to its lower processor compared to the Xbox One X. It's this lack of consistency that finally pushed Digital Foundry to recommend players to stay in resolution mode.

To this end, the Xbox One X retains a resolution of 30 frames per second in 1800p resolution mode. The PS4 Pro, meanwhile, sometimes suffered declines in the 20s. The situation is disappointing, especially with the excellent Gears 5, another game of Unreal Engine 4 with much better results, both on the base console than on the enhanced console, obviously only on Xbox.
