Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared an alternative version of Iron Man the post-credit scene that hinted at a very different Marvel film universe, one with the X-Men in play.
The post credits scene of the original Iron Man is already iconic – in 2008 it was the first glimpse of what would become the MCU. To recap, Tony Stark goes home and finds Nick Fury waiting for him.
"I'm here to talk about the Avenger initiative," he told Tony, coming out of the shadows, after talking about other super-powerful ones.
Instead of talking vaguely about "other superheroes," the alternative cut tells Fury to specifically mention "radioactive insect bites" and "various mutants." This, of course, refers to Spider-Man even if only for a limited time), as well as the X-Men.
Does this clip mean that we will soon see the mutants in the MCU? Well, Disney now owns Fox, which has hosted the X-Men franchise since 2000. Since that merger, MCU enthusiasts have been waiting to hear that the X-Men are re-launched and integrated into the larger MCU. According to Feige's previous statements, it will take at least five years before the mutants' entry.
Previously, Feige had stated that the upcoming Marvel film selection – which will feature The Eternals and Shang-Chi in film, and revisit Doctor Strange and Thor – will not include the X-Men.
"It's going to be a long time," Feige told Io9 about future mutant projects. "All this is just beginning and the five-year plan we worked on, we did it even before it was all defined. It is therefore much more difficult for us to know when and where. [the X-Men will appear] for the moment and more than the comfort factor and how good it is that they are at home. They are all back. But it will be very long. "
But with this little clue now published, is there a possibility that we can see the X-Men earlier? At the very least, it seems that Marvel Studios has big plans for the future.
