Before being sentenced last Friday to seven years in jail, a man from Iowa admitted in court to have let his 12 year old son drive a car that had crashed and that seriously injured a four-year-old boy on a bicycle.

Jesse Azbill, 34, had been tried following the August 6 accident in Waterloo, Iowa.

The sentence was handed down soon after Azbill pleaded guilty to complicity in serious injury and endangering children in an agreement with prosecutors.

"I'll never let a kid get behind the wheel," Azbill told the judge, according to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls mail. "I'm sorry, I should never have let that happen, I just want to go out and do good."

Azbill was sitting in the passenger seat of his 1999 Chevy Cavalier while his son was driving, according to the newspaper.

The injured boy had life-threatening injuries, KCRG-TV reported.
