Giants head coach Pat Shurmur does not commit to nominating Eli Manning as starting quarterback for the team's trip against the Buccaneers in the third week.
When asked if Manning would start Sunday, Shurmur did not give a direct answer.
"He was our starter at this point and I do not want to talk about any further progress from this point on," he said. "I'm not ready to discuss it."
When told that this would lead to speculation about Manning's possible departure or rookie Daniel Jones, Mr. Shurmur said, "I understand. I do."
Shurmur said all positions, including the quarterback, will be reviewed this week.
"We always do that," he said. "Obviously, Eli was our starter at this point. I'm not really ready to get into one of those conversations about a position. We will talk about everything we do to move forward. I think that's just right now. We are 0-2, there are areas where we need to improve, so we are going to address all areas. "
Is Jones ready to be the starting quarterback?
"I think everyone we put in there has the idea that they are ready to go," said Shurmur.
Calls to the Giants to replace Manning by Jones began with the Dallas Cowboys' 35-17 loss in Week 1. These calls were amplified in Week 2.
Manning collected 250 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills. After two games, he has an impressive score of 62.3 QB and is completing 63% of his passes.
The Giants started the 0-2 season for the third year in a row and for the fifth time in the past six seasons.
