Florida authorities said Monday that they had found the remains of what appears to be four missing children and their deceased mother.

The woman's husband was charged with second-degree murder after the death of 32-year-old Casei Jones, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods told reporters.

The children were identified as 10-year-old Cameron Bowers; Preston Bowers, age 5; Mercalli Jones, 2; and Aiyana Jones, 1.

Michael Wayne Jones, Jr., 38, was not charged with the deaths of children, but Woods' office said in a statement that further charges "may soon be brought against".

Michael Jones was the father of two of the children. The other two were from a previous marriage, said a sheriff spokesman.

"How could one do that, I do not know," said Woods, adding that "the real evil was standing in the head" in Marion County.

The sheriff's office said Casei Jones and her children were missing by her relatives Saturday after being seen for six weeks.

The woman's body was found Sunday in her husband's car after a car accident north of the Florida border in Brantley County, Georgia, the statement said.

Michael Jones then took the detectives to the children's remains, although they have not been identified yet, the statement said.

Michael Jones would have stored the bodies at home in an unincorporated community in Marion County before taking them to Georgia, the sheriff's office said.

Woods said the reason Michael Jones killed his wife was unclear. "But we will do all we can to find out how it was done," he said.

The sheriff's spokesman said Michael Jones was still in prison in Georgia. We did not know right away when he would be transferred to Florida.
