A wealthy real estate developer, a member of a powerful Mexican family, was arrested for murder after the death of his 11-year-old son when he fell in San Francisco Bay during a trip by boat with his family.
Javier A. Burillo, 57, suspected of manslaughter at the wheel of a boat, voluntarily assaulting the physical integrity or injury of a child and of Operation of a vessel under the influence, was arrested Sunday, according to a police statement in Tiburon, a town in Marin County located at the edge of the bay north of San Francisco.
Burillo's two sons, an 11-year-old and a 27-year-old, both fell from the boat near Angel Island, just north of Alcatraz, Sunday night, according to the police release.
Burillo's two sons were overthrown by the boat, but the 27-year-old was finally able to climb back up and help his father recover the eleven year old boy.
Burillo contacted the authorities and took his sons to the Corinthian Yacht Club, where the 11-year-old was declared dead, police said. The 27-year-old was hospitalized for leg injuries.
Investigators believe that Burillo's sons were ejected from the boat when he struck a wave, Tiburon police chief Michael Cronin said at a press conference Monday.
"It's a tragedy, we're all very hot," he said, adding that Burillo was a well-known and valued member of the Tiburon-Belvedere community.
Online archives show that Burillo was released Monday afternoon with a $ 1 million bail.
Burillo, whose full name is Javier Burillo Azcarraga, is a real estate developer who owns upscale hotels and restaurants in Mexico, as well as other projects in California and Texas, according to NBC Bay Area and the Marin Independent Journal. His family owns Televisa, a mass media company based in Mexico.

His wife and current wife, Rose, are on the verge of divorce, the independent paper Marin said, according to court records, that his non-taxable income would be $ 176,000 a month.
