Bears Pineiro kicker is questionable with knee injury

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Chicago Bears thought their foot problems were finally settled when Eddy Pineiro scored a 53-yard goal to beat Denver last week.

No chance.

Pineiro will play Monday's game in Washington, dubious about the injury report due to right knee problems.

Pineiro was injured Friday, coach Matt Nagy said that had happened during weightlifting. Pineiro did not practice Friday, but gave limited kicks to Saturday's workout.

"Especially after what just happened with us and what we experienced (with the kickers), and what he just did last weekend, it's like we're on a launched here and then suddenly, something crazy like this happens, "Nagy said. "But I'm trying to stay positive with this, and I think everything will be fine, we just have to see how things are going in the next two days."

The Bears had another player who was a surprise on the injury report. Eddie Jackson 's safety is knee injury during Friday' s training and was able to get to Saturday only to a limited extent. It is also debatable.

The Bears led a huge off-season campaign after Cody Parkey missed a 43-yard goal to end the 16-15 playoff loss to Philadelphia. Parkey has been raised.

Chicago scored nine kickers at one point in the spring, traded a seventh-round pick against Pineiro, and then defeated Elliott Fry to win the position. Pineiro is 4 for 4, including last week's winner and another 52-yard against Denver.

"I'm going to be on the cautious side with him, and we're just going to feel the pain and if that's something that's going to affect him, then we'll have a decision to make," Nagy said.

Pineiro did not think it was serious at first, according to Nagy.

"I just thought it was something minor, and I think that with the time that has elapsed, then that he's gone out today, he feels it a little, "said Nagy. "So we'll just go out and see where we are, be optimistic and try to do everything we can to make sure we take care of ourselves, pain."

And if Pineiro can not kick?

"It's a good question," Nagy said. "We have to work through that, I know [punter] Pat O Donnell has experience. But we'll see how it goes. I do not want to rush for judgment. It's not where we are. "

At least the Bears know a lot about some of the potential emergency kickers available.

"There are a lot of different scenarios that could happen, but I'm not going down that road," said Nagy. "I feel good that everything will be fine, if they are not, we just need to have an emergency plan when the time comes and if we have to do something different then we will do it." . "

Jackson's injury is different from the one he had had earlier in the week to figure in the injury report. He had a problem in the shoulder at that time, but did a full workout on Friday and then suffered knee pain. He practiced only on a limited basis Saturday.

Defensive end Bilal Nichols is missing for the match because of the broken hand last week.

Guards Kyle Long (hip) and Trey Burton (groin) are also questionable. Long was held outside of Saturday practice and Burton participated on a limited basis.
