"He was the only person inside the room, and according to initial information, there may have been a woman detained in police custody, and we were able to dispel it quickly," he said. Daytona Beach Deputy Chief of Police, Jakari Young.

The hotel was evacuated for precautionary reasons.

Investigators identified the man as being David Allen, 45, of Atlantic City.

Around 1:30 pm, officials arrested Allen after he asked them for a soda. They brought him one, placed him outside his room, and then shocked him with a Taser when he went out to fetch him.

"We sat Coca-Cola outside in the hallway and we convinced him to grab him to seize him, at which point we were able to calm him down and put him in detention safely," he said. Young.

The investigators said they found a grenade with him, but that he was a model. He did not have a hostage in the room with him, according to officials.

"In reality, it did not really threaten, but we still had to take the necessary precautions just to be on the side of safety," said Young.

Officers were able to use a drone to get a point of view that they could not get otherwise.

"He would move from the bedroom to the balcony, he would go out into the hallway, into the bedroom, onto the balcony, but he would never walk around freely in the hotel," said Young. "The drone also helped to understand the grenade, we could zoom in on it, we could see it in her hand and we can see that it was hollowed down."

Police cleaned up the premises and the workers and guests were allowed to go inside the hotel.
