While Dulce Maria Alavez's 5-year-old dying search was reaching her seventh day on Sunday with no apparent sign of the girl, dozens of people gathered for a candlelight vigil at South Jersey Park where she was reported missing. .
A day after the police expanded their searches in search of Dulce, Bridgeton Park, where her mother said she was last seen, was mostly calm on Saturday afternoon. Two police cars from the city were parked in a field just steps from the playground where Dulce had traveled with her mother after being stopped to buy ice cream.
A woman saw about four young children climbing jungle gyms at the same place where Dulce's mother said her daughter had rushed with her son on Monday afternoon. No apparent physical search was being conducted on Saturday in the park, which contrasts sharply with the swarm of police officers who converged earlier on the area.
The police continued to urge anyone with information to come forward and to say that she was looking for all possible explanations about what happened to Dulce. A Amber alert issued Tuesday for the girl remained active and a reward totaling $ 35,000 was offered.
"We remain confident in the hope of finding Dulce alive," Jennifer Webb-McRae, Cumberland County attorney, told reporters on Friday.
According to Amber Alert, detectives suspect Dulce of being taken from the park by a clean-shaven, slender, acne-faced Hispanic man in a red van with sliding doors. It has been described as being between 5 feet 6 feet and 5 feet 8 inches. The police were also looking for a red pickup truck possibly involved in the case.
Anyone with information about Dulce was urged to call the Missing Persons Unit of the State Police at 609-882-2000, ext. 2554, or the Bridgeton Police at 856-451-0033. Tipping can also be called by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI and selecting option 4, then option 8.
