Third-generation AMD Threadripper processors will arrive in November alongside the delayed Ryzen 9 3960X

AMD's next-generation Threadripper line will include a 24-core processor

RED TEAM AMD has confirmed that its third-generation Threadripper processors will debut in November, alongside the 16-core / 32-threaded Ryzen 9 3950X, which was due to arrive this month.

In a brief statement posted on Twitter, the chip maker said its third-generation leaked Threadripper processors, which appeared last week in a new Geekbench list, will arrive in two months.

"We are focused on meeting the high demand of our 3rd generation AMD Ryzen processors on the market and plan to launch both the AMD Ryzen 9 3960X processor and the first members of the 3rd generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper family of processors. in volume, "said AMD. .

"We believe that when enthusiasts get their hands on the world's first 16-core desktop processor and the next generation of high-end desktop processors, the wait will be worth it."

An accompanying slide (above) confirms that the Zen 2-based Threadripper range will include a 24-core processor, although rumors claim that Team Red is also preparing a 32-core, 64-thread processor with the code name "Sharkstooth". The first benchmark results show that the high-end chip, with a mono-core score of 1275 in single-core performance and 23,015 in multicore, will be about 70% faster than the 2990WX Threadripper.

The announcement from AMD also confirms that the Ryzen 9 3960X has been delayed, apparently due to production issues; this could be related to TSMC, which would struggle to meet the demand for 7 nm chips.

The processor, from which AMD removed the covers at the 2019 Ryzen E3, is touted as the "world's first processor for 16-core gaming" and seems to topple Intel's powerful Core i9-9980XE processor, sold north at £ 1,800. According to a list from the German Digitec online store, the Ryzen 9 3960X will cost 999 € (around £ 920). μ
