Why was the Kansas City Chiefs victory over the Ravens so important?

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens 33-28 on Sunday. Although all victories count the same way in the standings, it was an important victory for several reasons.

It was not always good, but the Kansas City Chiefs won Sunday their biggest win of the season by beating the Baltimore Ravens 33-28 in their first home game at Arrowhead Stadium. The win brought the Chiefs to 3-0 this season, but it was their first win against a team that was widely regarded as a team of caliber for the playoffs.

The show, however, exceeded expectations for this season as the Ravens gave the Chiefs all they could handle in 2018, when K.C needed Patrick Mahomes' miracle pass and extra time to beat them. Add some offensive injuries to the Chiefs and see how far Raven Lamar Jackson's quarterback has played so far this season.

The Ravens came out and tried to make an early statement (more on that in a minute), then they added some late scores to bring things together, but for most of that match, the leaders were firmly placed at wheel. If you want to surprise the Chiefs on a win against a playoff opponent, I guess you could do it. They were certainly not perfect in this match.

The two biggest complaints I had were that they did not put the game completely out of reach when they had the chance. As was often the case during Andy Reid's tenure, the Chiefs built a considerable lead, but then allowed their opponent to stay in their place instead of just putting a foot on their throat. The Chiefs were 17 points clear at two different points in the match, but could not finish everything before a nice third conversion with less than two minutes left to finally take the victory formation.

The second complaint is that the race defense still has problems. They allowed 32 runs for 203 yards and 4 touchdowns. It's an average of 6.3 yards per race. Not great. Now, to their credit, the Ravens offense is hard to defend because of the skills of Lamar Jackson. There have been a few defensive highlights (we'll talk about this later as well), but the Chiefs need to be certain to strengthen the defense against the race as they now grant 6.2 yards per pursuit in three games.

Aside from these two negative aspects, it was a very important victory for the Chiefs, who showed them different things that, hopefully, will help them, while continuing their quest for this elusive Super Bowl.
