Former NBA and BIG3 player Andre Emmett was killed Monday after being shot in Dallas, according to CBS DFW.
The 37-year-old was found at 2:30 am local time and died after being transported to a hospital.
According to Dallas Police Department, two unknown suspects approached Emmett with a handgun and shot him while he was trying to run. There would be no suspects at the present time, but the investigation is underway.
Emmett has spent the last two seasons in the BIG3, placing second in the league in points scored this season behind only Joe Johnson.
The league issued a statement following the death of Emmett:
BIG3 on CBS @thebig3
The BIG3 is shocked by the sudden and tragic death of Andre Emmett. André has been a member of the BIG3 family for two seasons and never without a smile. His kindness to others and his easy attitude gave him a joy of living. https://t.co/QoNJ7NH2k0
He has also had a long international career and two-season games in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Jersey Nets. The 2004 second-round draft pick has appeared in 14 games overall, but his two relays have been separated by seven.
Emmett also played in Texas Tech from 2000 to 2004, winning the All-America Trophy during his senior season.
