The Bronx mother, whose 5-year-old daughter narrowly survived her suicidal father's jump Monday morning on a train, made a desperate run from the family's home at the nearby metro station when she suspected something did not go, said relatives.

Niurka Caraballo received a disturbing phone call from Fernando Balbuena shortly after leaving the Grand Concourse's apartment with his daughter, Ferni Balbuena, around 8 am this morning, said Luis Sanchez, the godfather of the couple's son.

"She could not understand what he was saying. It was not happening, "said Sanchez. "But she felt that something was really wrong."

"She felt that something was wrong, so she ran to the train."

But by the time she arrived, it was too late.

According to police and horrified witnesses, Balbuena, 45, took his daughter to Kingsbridge Road Station 4, less than half a mile from the family home.

Balbuena died, but Ferni miraculously survived, crawling under the almost unhurt train, in an emotional scene captured in video.

Caraballo, 41, thanked God for watching over his daughter.

Sanchez said Balbuena was fighting depression, but his final act was still catching everyone off guard.

"He was a good husband, a good father, a good supplier and a good man," said Caraballo through a translator. "I had no idea."
