Cam Newton apparently had a foot injury caused by Lisfranc and would have tried to avoid surgery.

As the season approached, questions around Cam Newton focused on shoulder surgery in the off-season and the question of whether he would be able to launch the ball again or not. at a prolific level. Well, a quarter of the Panthers have not been able to keep pace with his new throwing motion as the injury virus has taken another bite from the former NFL MVP.

In Carolina's third pre-season game in early summer, Newton was eliminated by Patriots scorer Adam Butler and injured his foot. He left the field limping and never came back. While his status was in question before the first game, Newton was able to play, but he aggravated the injury during week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Until then, Newton's injury was characterized by a slight sprained foot. Now that more details are coming in, it seems like it could be worse than that.

Joe Person, of The Athletic, was the first to report on Tuesday that Newton had suffered an injury to Lisfranc and was indefinitely absent.

This comes after the Panthers quickly excluded Newton for his Week 4 match against the Texans in a statement on Monday, while announcing that Kyle Allen will be back under center.

"What Cam needs now is time and rest for his foot, we want him 100% when he is ready, so there is no definite timetable for his return," said head coach Ron Rivera in his release. "At this point, let's go ahead with Kyle (Allen) as our starter."

An injury to Lisfranc is a pretty serious situation for Newton, who could not only compromise his season, but seriously compromise his racing abilities for the rest of his career if it were severe enough. Tom Pelissero of the NFL network pointed out that the current plan is for Newton to continue his rehabilitation in the hope of returning and avoid surgery.

After these two games against Carolina this season, Newton has only completed 56.2% of his passes for a total of 572 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. The Panthers' attack, however, remains in good hands with starter Kyle Allen, who scored for four touchdowns and 261 yards with a 73.1 completion percentage in the third week's win over the Cardinals. .
