With Alec Ogletree struggling with a hamstring problem and Tae Davis in the concussion protocol, the New York Giants return to linebacker Nate Stupar, by published report.
Stupar, 31, was a giant last season, playing mostly in special teams. It was cut this year before week 1.
The Giants ended Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with rookie Ryan Connelly and newly recruited veteran David Mayo as the only linebacker available.
It is perhaps surprising that the Giants have brought back Stupar rather than promoting unenuming rookie free agent Josiah Tauaefa of the training team. Tauaefa had 17 tackles in the pre-season lead.
The Giants have not officially announced the signature, so we do not know the corresponding move.
With Saquon Barkley (sprained high ankle) for several weeks, the Giants will also have to add at least one other rider to their list of 53 players this week. Currently, the only backup available for Wayne Gallman is the backing Elijhaa Penny.
