The Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots sit at 3-0 and begin their Week 4 game at New Era Field. For New England, the record is not surprising. The Patriots are the reigning Super Bowl champions and are among the favorites to return to the big game in 2019. The Bills' 3-0 record, however, surprised some national media. The total Buffalo win ahead of the season was 6.5.
Can the Bills knock out the NFL world and win a fourth consecutive victory on Sunday? Anything is possible, but it will be a much more difficult test than what the team has seen so far.
Here are seven things to know about patriots.
The Patriots' defense did not allow a TD to spend three weeks
The Patriots attack has always been special during the dynasty, but their defense is in the lead in 2019. What is the quality of New England defense? The unit did not allow an offensive touchdown for three weeks. According to ESPN's Bill Barnwell, the team gave only 0.27 points per possession.
Buffalo will have his hands full with the dominant defense of New England.
Sony Michel in trouble
Despite having faced some of the worst teams in the NFL this season, Sony Michel is struggling to earn points on the field. To date, Michel has 108 yards and two touchdowns on 45 races (2.4 YPC).
In Week 3, Michel scored 11 yards and one touchdown on nine races (1.2 YPC) against the Jets.
Tom Brady shows no sign of slowing
Michel may be struggling, but quarterback Tom Brady is showing no signs of slowing down. In three games, Brady completed 67.9 percent of his passes for 911 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions.
Brady continues to be a nightmare for opposing defenses as he quickly recovers the ball and always seems to know where to go with the pre-snap ball.
Julian Edelman injured
Julian Edelman left Sunday's game against the Jets in the first period due to a rib injury. Ian Rapoport reported that the injury is not considered major and that the wide receiver is not excluded for the 4th week.
Edelman has been a thorn in the Buffalo team throughout his career for his play on the field and his questionable success. Last season, Edelman captured 15 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown against Buffalo.
Fullback placed on IR
James Develin was placed on the injured reserve on Monday. The back half was injured in the neck during the second week against the Dolphins and missed last week's game against the Jets. Develin played a key role in the running of New England. Jakob Johnson is now the best back side of the Patriots.
OL problems?
The New England offensive line has done its job against the Jets, but the unit is facing two major defeats. LT Isaiah Wynn was placed in the IR after suffering a foot injury during the second week and David Andrews will miss the season after being hospitalized in late August with a blood clot in his lungs.
New England has one of the best NFL coaches in Dante Scarnecchia, but the offensive line game needs to be monitored in the 4th week and beyond.
The competition is a combined 0-9
New England will likely hold one of the best NFL records at the end of the regular season, but the team has not really faced tough competition in 2019. Their first three opponents, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets form a combined whole. 0-9 to three weeks. To the credit of New England, the team won in all three games. After three weeks, New England scored 107 points while leaving only 17 points.
