Sen. Richard Burr, CR, told NBC News Wednesday that the complaint of a whistleblower over a phone call between President Donald Trump and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, had been forwarded to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The complaint was handed over by hand, NBC Intelligence Committee Chairman Burr told NBC Wednesday afternoon. He declined to comment on the content of the report.

A spokeswoman for Burr rejected CNBC's request for comment on NBC's report that the complaint, which urged Democratic leaders to support the launch of a recall investigation this week against Trump, had been filed.

The whistleblower lodged the complaint with the intelligence community's internal watchdog, who considered the allegations "urgent" and "credible".

Several media later reported that the complaint raised concerns about Trump's July 25 appeal with Zelensky, whose five-page memorandum was released Wednesday morning. Trump had asked in the appeal if Zelensky "can investigate" allegations of corruption against former vice president Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
