Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to return to New Orleans this week and wear a helmet or headset during Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, said coach Sean Payton.
Brees was thumb operated last week in Los Angeles, where he stayed to avoid a postoperative setback, according to Payton.
Payton told reporters Wednesday that the first 8 to 9 days of rehab after Brees surgery were crucial. So he stayed in Los Angeles.
Payton also said that Brees can still be an "asset" to the Saints while he is away from the thumb injury.
