The Chargers had their first training for this weekend's game against the Dolphins on Wednesday.
In today's session, Los Angeles has done its usual exercises, but a group of positions has taken on a new face.
Defensive lineman Anthony Lanier was seen working with offensive tackles by Eric D. Williams of ESPN.
The decision to move Lanier on the offensive side of the ball remains to be seen, but it breaks his head.
The offensive tackle position is always a work in progress and although they can use an upgrade, it's hard to imagine that a defensive end would be the solution when there are more viable options on the bench behind. Trent Scott and Sam Tevi, as well as remarkable free agents have yet to be signed.
Over the years, some defensive line players have converted to offensive linemen, including Brian Waters, J. R. Sweezy and Alejandro Villanueva.
These players have spent time learning the position and developing their bodies during the transition, but it is uncertain that they plan to adopt this approach and see the offensive attack as the new position of Lanier in the future, or if they are looking to throw it into the fire. .
Lanier is currently listed in the 6 foot 6 inch and 285 lb class. He will probably have to put in 15 to 25 more pounds and spend a lot of time learning the nuances of the job before he is even considered a potential option.
Allowing Lanier to train with offensive tackles is the latest addition to the troubling decisions made by coaching staff this week.
