Nissan is recalling 1.3 million vehicles, primarily in the United States and Canada, to solve a problem with reversing camera screens.
The recall concerns the 2018 and 2019 Nissan Altima, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Versa Note and Versa Sedan. Also included are Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles.
Starting in the 2019 model year, the Nissan GT-R and Taxi as well as the Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70 and Q70L are also included.
The recalled vehicles also traveled to Israel, Korea and Saipan, the company said.
In government documents released on Tuesday, Nissan says owners can adjust camera screens so the image is not visible. The displays will keep this setting the next time the vehicles go into reverse. It violates federal security standards. According to documents, the lack of a backup camera image increases the risk of an accident.
The company says it has not reported any accidents or injuries.
Dealers will update the camera's free emergency camera software settings for owners starting October 21st. The company says the repair will take less than half an hour.
