Jason Bateman Talks to Stage Star in Ryan Reynolds' "Clue" Movie – Variety

Jason Bateman is in the early stages of the Ryan Reynolds feature and feature film debut based on the Clue for Fox and Disney board game.

Reynolds entered the project last year under a three year contract that he had signed with Fox. The Reynolds Maximum Effort banner announced at that time that it would develop "Clue" as a possible star for the actor with Allspark Pictures, the film division of Hasbro, which also produces. The writing team of "Deadpool" composed of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick was hired to write the script.

The game, developed for the first time in 1949, is a contest to determine which of the six suspects murdered his victim, where the crime was committed and which weapon was used. Each player assumes the role of one of the six suspects and tries to determine who is the culprit. Paramount released a cinematic version of "Clue" as a mystery-comedy in 1985, under the direction of Jonathan Lynn and Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull and Lesley Ann Warren.

Bateman won the Sunday Emmy for best directing for a drama series for Ozark's "Repairs" episode. He is also executive producer of the series and interprets financial advisor Martin "Marty" Byrde, who launder money for a Mexican cartel.

Bateman is replaced by CAA, Lighthouse Media & Management and Hansen Jacobson. The news was first reported by Deadline.
