Amazon has unveiled a new upgraded version of its Eero Wi-Fi mesh router system, at a price much cheaper than its first model, and offering even simpler configuration.
The Eero base station is currently available in the United States at the time of writing the base price, for only $ 99 / € 99), while a pack of three including the base station and two tags for one Extended coverage is priced at $ 249 / $ 249 / $ 279. A launch in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom will take place in November.
The new router was unveiled at the launch of Amazon's product at its headquarters in Seattle, Washington,
Considering that the first set Eero Wi-Fi mesh costs 399 USD (about £ 300,000), it's a dramatic price reduction – and especially, less than 10 USD in the US at the price of three writing.
Wi-Fi enhanced by Alexa – starting with Eero
Like all previous Eero products, these come with dual band radios as well as Eero's TrueMesh technology, which promises to eliminate shadow areas in your Wi-Fi coverage. Better again, a pack of three can now cover up to 5000 m² with a Wi-Fi signal, a 66% improvement over the previous model.
Amazon is also introducing two new security services with these new routers, Eero Secure and Eero Secure +, designed to protect devices that connect to your network. The company has not yet revealed the specific characteristics of each service at the time of writing this article. Only the fact that Secure + offers instant protection and control.
The company was much happier to talk about the Alexa update to offer voice-based Wi-Fi commands via Eero devices. Here are some of the commands you can expect:
- "Alexa, take a break from the WiFi for dinner."
- "Alexa, turn on the WiFi guest."
- "Alexa, pause the WiFi Playstation."
Amazon promises to make these Alexa features available to a number of other builders' routers, including the Asus and TP-Link routers, later this year, with support for Arris and Linksys devices. early next year.
Now that it is available for a lower price than Google Wifi, Amazon has just made Eero a much more interesting proposition for a vast majority of potential customers, especially because of the addition of voice control . We do not know yet if this will trigger a Wi-Fi war between Amazon and Google, but we would be willing to bet on it.
