Sin. Ben Sasse had harsh words for both sides of the political spectrum after reading the whistle-blower complaint that sparked a Democrat-led dismissal inquiry into President Trump.
Nebraska Republican, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, is one of the lawmakers who has seen the whistleblower complaint from the intelligence community still to be made public. Regretting that the Congress is "terribly deliberate", Mr. Sasse warned that all parties should "slow down" and that there would be "a lot of deliberation" on the content of the complaint.
"Democrats should not use the word impeach before having a whistle-blower complaint or before reading the transcript," Sasse said, adding that "Republicans should not rush to go around trolleys "to assert that there is nothing" when there are obviously a lot of things that are very disturbing there. "
Sasse, 47, also said that the Trump administration "should not attack the whistleblower because some talking points suggest doing it".
He also urged the media not to wait for answers so quickly.
"The media should not humbly claim that this story is about something that will be resolved in the next two hours," Sasse said. "Well done with a lot of deliberations, it's going to take a lot of time, but there are obviously some very disturbing things here."
"But I think that partisan tribalism that is still insta-certain is a terrible idea," he added.
The whistleblower's complaint triggered a dismissal investigation against Trump on Tuesday. The investigation came before Democrats or Republicans had the chance to read the raw transcript of a call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky which was a key part of the complaint. This transcript was made public Wednesday.
