De Nysschen is now the new director of Volkswagen operations in North America, the automaker said in a press release. It will begin October 1 and will report to Scott Keogh, president of the Volkswagen Group of America.

Before joining Volkswagen, Mr. de Nysschen led Cadillac from 2014 to 2018, overseeing his controversial move from Michigan to Manhattan and his attempts to over-the-German Germany. (It did not work.)

He led Infiniti for two years and Audi of America for eight years. But from 1993 to 2004, he was General Manager of Audi in South Africa and President of Audi Japan. This return to Volkswagen must sound at least a bit familiar, if not a step back from Audi's past here. But that's what I know.

The release of Volkswagen says of Nysschen

… streamline the reporting structure and enable the brand to better coordinate and align operations in the region. VW created the regional structure in 2016 to allow the teams closest to the company to make more decisions that affect the brand in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Maybe if we yell it loud enough, he'll leave the eighth-generation Golf R.
