A New Jersey school district said it was acting after the teacher spoke of the indignation of a missing 5-year-old girl, CBS reported Philly. The little girl, Dulce Maria Alavez, was playing with her brother when she disappeared from a playground in Bridgetown, New Jersey on September 16, while her mother was sitting in a nearby parking lot.
Police said that they thought the child had been abducted and that an Amber alert was still in effect.
While the girl's search was continuing, a local teacher shared her opinion on the case in a Facebook comment. Jennifer Hewitt Bishop, a teacher from neighboring Vineland, responded to a message about the missing girl by accusing Dulce Maria Alavez of her disappearance in Mexico, NJ.com reported.
"They are Mexican, it's their culture, they do not look after their children the way we do," wrote Hewitt Bishop, according to NJ.com.
On Friday, the Vineland Public School District was made aware of an "unacceptable message by a district employee on social media," a district spokesman told CBS News by email.
"The central administration immediately opened an investigation and discovered that this post had been created by a teacher and the appropriate measures were taken," the statement said. We do not know what was the action.
Joe Rossi, Executive Director of Vineland District Staff, told NJ.com that the teacher was "out of class", but did not say if she had been suspended or if she was still working for the district.
The staff committee of the Board of Education discussed the issue at a meeting Wednesday evening and the district legal counsel is reviewing the situation. The district spokesman added that the school district would not make public any job status results.
An Amber Alert for Alavez is still in effect. The suspect is described as a light-skinned man, possibly Hispanic, acne-like and devoid of facial hair. According to CBS Philly, it measures between 5 and 6 feet and 5 and 8 feet.
Police said the suspect had put Alavez in a SUV or a red van. She was last seen wearing a yellow shirt with an elephant, black and white pants and white shoes. The police ask anyone with information to call 856-451-0033 or send an anonymous SMS to TIP411.
