The legend of rock, Ginger Baker, is "seriously ill" in a hospital, according to a message from his family asking for "prayers".
"The Baker family is sad to announce that Ginger is seriously ill at the hospital. Please keep it in your prayers tonight, "his Twitter official noted Wednesday.
No other details were given, but it was asked if it was "for real", his answered account, "Unfortunately yes."
Baker, 80, is still best known for his time with Eric Clapton in Cream, the ephemeral 1960s psychedelic rock band whose classic titles include "Sunshine of Your Love," "Crossroads," "Strange Brew," and "I Feel Free. . The other member of the trio, bassist Jack Bruce, died in 2014.
Baker stayed with Clapton to form Blind Faith with Steve Windwood, before moving to Lagos to play with Fela Kuti.
He has had a varied career since, playing in Hawkwind, John Lydon's Public Image Ltd, as well as with jazz musicians like Charlie Haden and Bill Frisell. Rolling Stone named him number 3 of the greatest drummers of all time.
In 2013, he told rock magazine that he had "extremely painful degenerative osteoarthritis" and lung diseases caused by tobacco.
He then underwent open heart surgery in 2016 after a bad fall, Rolling Stone said at the time.
