Former Arizona senator Jeff Flake made a bold statement Thursday stating that "at least 35" GOP Senators would vote privately for the removal of President Trump.
Flake, a frequent critic of the president, has expressed his own reaction and predicted that nearly three dozen Republican senators would support the impeachment.
"I heard someone say that if there was a private vote, there would be 30 Republican votes." That's not true, Flake said during the meeting. a question and answer session. "There would be at least 35."

Flake appeared to be reacting to Mike Murphy, the GOP's longtime political consultant, who appeared on MSNBC on Wednesday and suggested to many Republican legislators in the Senate to support the impeachment with a "secret ballot".
"I can tell you this … a Republican senator told me that if it was a secret ballot, 30 Republican senators would vote to oust Trump," said Mr. Murphy.
Flake retired from the Senate in 2019. He has frequently criticized Trump, as well as the Republican Party, since 2016. Earlier this year, he called on other members of his party to condemn the president's recent controversial comments about several women Democrats in Congress.
He has also already supported the idea of a Republican defying Trump in 2020.
