Continued trial of Amber Guyger, Dallas cop who shot a neighbor

Texas attorneys rested their case Thursday afternoon in the lawsuit for the murder of a white police officer from Dallas who shot and killed his unarmed black neighbor.

Prosecutors claimed that Botham Jean was not a threat to Amber Guyger, saying Jean was in his living room eating a bowl of ice cream when Guyger entered his apartment last September.

FOX 4 News reported that prosecutors had attempted to highlight the differences between Guyger's third floor hall and Jean's fourth floor hall, refuting the defense's argument that Guyger mistakenly entered the apartment, thinking it was his.

Cross-examined by Guyger's lawyers, Texas Ranger Michael Adcock said the investigators had concluded that Jean's body was about fifteen meters from his apartment door, reinforcing the defense's argument that Guyger considered Jean an imminent threat. Prosecutors claim that Jean was not shot at the spot where his body was found, claiming that the victim was more than 30 feet from Guyger when she opened fire .

Guyer, who was on leave but in uniform at the time of the shooting, was then fired by Dallas police.

On the second day of the trial, prosecutors projected the video of police officer Michael Lee, one of the first responders at the scene.

"I thought it was my apartment," says Guyger to Lee.

The trial began on Monday as prosecutors told the jury that on the day of the shooting, Guyger had exchanged sexually explicit text messages with his partner and lover, Agent Martin Rivera.

In a text, she told Rivera that she was "super excited today."

Judge Tammy Kemp of the state district said the trial would resume Friday with the presentation of defense arguments.
