Babies who cry are the bane of the existence of many air travelers. And an airline facilitates the distance between you and a player who is having a fit.

This feature was first launched, but it was widely noticed after Rahat Ahmed, a venture capitalist, tweeted about it. Japan Airlines did not immediately return a request for comment.
Japan Airlines has posted a few warnings about the child icon function on its website. Children's icons will not appear if the person traveling with children has chosen his place as part of a tour booking or other website rather than directly through Japan Airlines. Children's icons do not appear for passengers who have purchased their tickets with miles.

And if the plane changes after booking, the icons for children may not be accurate, warned Japan Airlines.
Japan Airlines is not the first carrier to try to make travel more comfortable for other travelers when babies are on board. In 2016, the Indian company IndiGo set up "quiet areas", prohibiting children under 12 years to sit. Other airlines have set up similar rows of childless seats for an additional fee.
Childless business travelers are not the only ones feeling stressed by the airline's child seat policy. A survey conducted by Consumer Reports revealed that more than 100 complaints had been filed with the US Department of Transportation by families who were struggling to ensure that they could all sit together on their flights. Some families also complained that they had to pay extra to ensure that parents were sitting with their children.
And although Congress has ordered DOT to review airline family seat policies, Consumer Reports found that the agency had not taken steps to institute more family friendly policies among airlines.
