Spotify finally gets support from Siri with iOS 13

Spotify is finally able to play songs, albums and playlists via Siri. The latest beta versions of Spotify include this support and The edge was able to test song playback via Siri on the latest iOS 13.1 update. This is among the new features introduced by Apple with iOS 13, which means that music apps such as Spotify are now on a par with Apple Music for requests via Siri.

Although this new feature allows you to request Spotify songs with Siri on an iPhone, it does not work at the moment on an Apple Watch, because the Apple laptop does not have a dedicated Spotify application. Instead, it's just a controller for playing songs on other Spotify-enabled devices. Siri simply responds with "I'm sorry, I can not do it on your Apple Watch" when you try. We have not been able to verify if the HomePod now works with Spotify, but it is unlikely.

However, the integration of Spotify and Siri works well on Apple AirPod, allowing you to say "Hey Siri" and ask for albums, playlists or songs to play on the Spotify service. One thing that does not work well is trying to play podcasts with Siri because Spotify is trying to search for music instead of dedicated podcasts.

Spotify is currently testing this new feature and is expected to debut in the main application in the coming weeks. Last year, we had a look at Spotify on the Apple Watch in beta and the feature had been launched less than two weeks later.
