Leslie David Baker says the racism worsened after revealing hateful comments he received following his decision to start a crowdfunding campaign for a spinoff from “The Office.”
The star, who is best known for playing Stanley Hudson on the popular NBC sitcom, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to try to get a spinoff called ‘Uncle Stan’ off the ground. The proposed spinoff would see his character come out of retirement in Florida and move to Los Angeles to help his nephew run a motorcycle and florist business, much to the chagrin of Stanley’s future fiancée.
However, after announcing the project, Baker took to Instagram to reveal some of the despicable responses he had received from racists who were unhappy with his solicitation of “The Office” fan base for it. ‘money. After the post went viral, Baker spoke about his experience to USA Today.

He also explained his reasoning for posting the horrific posts, which included racist slurs, accusations of theft, and images of black people being murdered.
“You can’t fight racism and fight these types of stereotypical attitudes if you pretend they don’t exist,” he explained. “Too often in America, people have been so worried about feeling uncomfortable, because they aren’t. Facing racist behavior.”

The star was hoping to shed light on the idea that racist behavior hasn’t gone away, it’s just moved to online support.
