League of Legends: DRX Deft: “If we played T1 tonight, we would have lost for good.”

On the 16th (KST), DRX faced SeolHaeOne Prince on Day 41 of the LCK Summer 2020 Division. It was a hard-fought 2: 1 victory for DRX, and with this victory they managed to secure at least 2nd place in the regular division standings. In a post-match interview, DRX bot laner Deft said he believed the team’s practice direction was not correct and said it needed to be corrected.

After the series, Deft joined the press room for a post-match interview.

Can you tell us what you think of the victory?

My immediate feeling is a relief. It feels like the direction of our practice has gone in the wrong direction. There were times during the series where we could have solidified our lead, but we couldn’t make the most of those opportunities. In addition, we made mistakes during drafts that we could not return. I think we need to reorganize the list of levels of our projects.

Can you tell us some of the things that need to change?

We usually picked the champions we were good at or preferred at. When we drafted a team roster without front line tanks, the enemy also drafted similarly. This has resulted in our favor. However, SP wrote a very committed team roster with a strong frontline, which proved tricky for us. Given that, we practiced playing with an imperfect team composition, which has not worked for us in this series.

Some criticize that because Kindred in Game 1 couldn’t help get priority for the laners, it was a failed choice. Also, Pyosik showed a doubt in the choice of Lillia, which he expressed vocally in the communications before the end of the game 3. Can you tell us more?

If the jungle champion is to be a damage dealing champion, we better have a tank champion in another role. We practiced a squad build that contained champions who take priority on the lane and a champion dealing damage to close matches. We also tried to change the direction of our playstyle during the game, but the results turned out to be poor.

You answer our questions standing up. How’s your back pain?

It has improved a lot. I don’t get up because of the pain. I’ve been told it’s best to stay up for a long time, so that’s what I do. I also went back to my original workout routine.

You took Caitlyn out today. What is your opinion on the champion?

As long as Caitlyn doesn’t die and has priority throughout the match, this is a great choice. He’s a good champion in a perfected team roster, but I think Ashe and Jhin are better if a team snowballs around priority.

Your last regular split opponent is T1.

If we played against T1 tonight we would have lost definitely. It seems like there is a lot to fix, and if we do, we can definitely beat them.

What do you think was the hardest thing that SP showed in their gameplay?

Overall, I felt their connection between their bottom lane and the middle of the jungle was really strong. I felt their bottom lane made good use of the pressure in the middle of the jungle.

Finally, a word to your fans?

If we beat T1 and we’re lucky, we can get to 1st place. We will make sure to pay everything we have. My back pain is improving so I want to thank all the fans who are worried about me.
