Manchester United fans believe Sergio Romero was treated unfairly after David de Gea was called up in the starting XI for tonight’s Europa League semi-final against Sevilla.
Romero has been the United Cup goalkeeper this season, starting both the round of 16 against LASK and the quarter-final victory over FC Copenhagen.
Despite De Gea’s uneven form in recent months, the Spaniard has been reinstated in the starting lineup for the Sevilla game.
De Gea’s mistakes took their toll in the FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea, with many fans believing Romero should be the first choice until Dean Henderson returned to the club.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has publicly defended his first-choice scorer and has put enormous faith in the Spain international by ditching Romero.
United fans believe the Argentine was treated harshly.
Solskjaer was asked about the goalkeepers’ situation ahead of the win against Copenhagen and admitted that it will be difficult to keep everyone at the club.
He said: “It’s difficult, but it’s a nice problem to have. The competition for places is important. We are looking to have competition for places.
“We have Dean, Sergio, David in the line. Lee (Grant), the fantastic pro that he is, supports them.
“It will be difficult to keep three of them at the club, so we’ll see what the decision is.”
