Simon Cowell is back home in Malibu, Calif., And is making progress in his recovery after breaking his back in several places after falling from an electric bike, a source told People on Saturday.

The “America’s Got Talent” judge was hospitalized on August 8 after the bicycle incident and underwent five-hour surgery the same night, which included fusions and placing a metal rod in his back. .

A popular source said Cowell was “very happy to be back home with his family in the fresh sea air.”

According to People, the TV personality was “walking” just two days after the operation and recovering better than expected.

“He’s already done some work this week, but he also knows he needs to give back time to properly heal from the operation,” the source told People.

“He was able to walk a lot and faster than the experts expected after this type of major surgery, which is a great sign that the healing is going well,” they added.

The day after his hospitalization, Cowell offered wise advice to fans on Twitter on the safety of electric bikes.

“Some good advice … If you are buying an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I broke part of my back. Thanks everyone for your kind messages,” he wrote .

Cowell did not appear in the August 11-12 live episodes of “America’s Got Talent.” Instead, singer Kelly Clarkson temporarily replaced him.

Clarkson – who is also known to host her own talk show and coach on “The Voice” – won the first season of “American Idol” in 2002, in which Cowell was a judge.

“Simon, don’t hurry home. I really feel comfortable in your chair. I’m pretty good in it. I’m joking. Get well soon,” Clarkson said in a video she shared on Twitter.

Insider previously contacted NBC to ask if Cowell’s injury would affect his role as a judge on “America’s Got Talent.”
