The San Francisco 49ers held their second practice at training camp on Sunday. As will be the case with all practices, fans are not permitted to attend and the limited media in attendance must observe social distancing due to the coronavirus pandemic. This means standing six feet away from players and staff and wearing a face mask at all times.
No face-to-face interviews are allowed, as the availability of players and staff is by videoconference.
The 49ers have two more practices before the players get a day off on Wednesday. Monday’s session will be the first padded workout.
Below are some Sunday practice notes from various media sources.
Receiver Jalen Hurd “appeared” to have injured his foot, falling awkwardly as he worked on side court with a strength trainer. He had gone downstairs for a few minutes and then carefully walked to the locker room, about an hour into practice. “The injuries don’t seem serious, but something to watch out for,” Sports Illustrated’s Grant Cohn notes. (AND, Sacramento Bee, Athletic)
Hurd is back on the training ground after missing all of last season with a back injury and did not participate in team drills.
Defensive lineman Arik Armstead missed his second straight practice with back strain. Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t sound overly concerned when speaking to the media on Saturday. (NBC Sports Bay Area)
Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne and tight end George Kittle are having fun …
Cornerback Jason Verrett has done a lot of work on the left side with the first team defense. Richard Sherman, who usually occupies this location, was on the right. (Sacramento Bee)
Cornerbacks Emmanuel Moseley and Ahkello Witherspoon mainly worked with second-team defense. (ESPN)
Rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk had a good outing, creating a split with Verrett on one play and catching a deep pass from Jimmy Garoppolo on drills 7v7. (NBC Sports Bay Area)
The pads aren’t coming until tomorrow, but it’s clear Jimmy Garoppolo and 49ers WR rookie Brandon Aiyuk already have a relationship.
Several completions between the two in training today, including a Garoppolo bomb that hit Aiyuk in stride for a 7v7 TD. Aesthetically pleasing

Rookie tight end Charlie Woerner showed “some legitimate moves” during the 1-on-1 drills. Running back Jerick McKinnon looked nimble, as he did on Saturday. (NBC Sports Bay Area)
Another unpadded training observation: Rookie 49ers TE Charlie Woerner certainly looks like the fluid athlete and catcher his former coaches and teammates were thrilled with. Woerner rocked Fred Warner on a 1 on 1 road, pointed the ball. Read this: https: //t.co/Ab3FPuB5fS

Safety Marcell Harris intercepted a Garoppolo knockdown. (Bay Area News Group)
Cornerback K’Waun Williams did not practice. Tight end Jordan Reed was also absent. (Sacramento Bee)
Defensive end Nick Bosa looked as good as ever, winning a possible Garoppolo sack and making an impression on running back Raheem Mostert. He even took the lead in the 1v1 against veteran tackle Trent Williams. Williams responded well, however.
Nick Bosa was excellent today. Fired Jimmy Garoppolo and blew up a Raheem Mostert sweep in the next game in 11s. Head-to-head, beat Trent Williams with an inside swing, then Williams pissed him off the next rep. These two are fun to watch against each other. # 49ers

And here’s an update on rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw taking on veteran guard Laken Tomlinson.
There’s not much to take away from the 1-on-1 pass rush until G Laken Tomlinson has handled business against rookie DT Javon Kinlaw in four clashes I’ve seen. Nick Bosa and Trent Williams fought for a two-rep draw, each winning one. Colton McKivitz did well on guard against Thomas.

The San Francisco 49ers will host their first practice of training camp today. So far, the team has participated in guided tours. The session is scheduled to start at 10:30 am with Head Coach Kyle Shanahan speaking to reporters afterwards via video conference. Different players will be made available thereafter. Here are some pre-practice notes. Defensive lineman Arik Armstead will not be training due to “back irritation”. Wide receiver Jalen Hurd and tight end Jordan Reed will participate but will be released. Both players have missed all of last season. Hurd sustained a back injury while Reed treated symptoms of a concussion. New 49ers wide receivers Tavon Austin and JJ Nelson ready to train despite no
The San Francisco 49ers have released a video featuring linebacker Kwon Alexander, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, cornerback Richard Sherman and others taking part in a team photoshoot for the upcoming season. The San Francisco 49ers certainly bet on the signing of Jason Verrett in the last offseason. Why would it be a gamble to add a Pro Bowl cornerback to your defense? After being a first-round pick by the Chargers in 2014, Verrett has only had one healthy season – this 2015 Pro Bowl year. He landed on the reserve injured in each of his other five seasons in the game. NFL, including last season with the 49ers. Verrett came close to returning in 2019. He made an appearance in the game, taking part in just four defensive shots before being sidelined for the remainder of the season. Safety Jimmie Ward knows what it’s like to be injured. He landed on the reserve injured four times ahead of last year’s breakout performance in a season in which he has managed to remain relatively healthy.
