Senator Kamala Harris hit back at the eligibility conspiracy theory in an interview on Sunday, criticizing the Trump campaign for engaging in “dirty tactics.”
Harris, during an interview with The Grio, was asked about the conspiracy theory that she was not eligible to become vice president because her parents were born outside the United States.
TRUMP SLAMMED FOR NOT REJECTING THE THEORY OF CONSPIRACY KAMALA HARRIS IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE VICE PRESIDENCY
Harris is an American citizen born in California in 1964, which makes her eligible for the office of President or Vice President under the United States Constitution.
The president, last week, was criticized for not categorically rejecting the theory, and instead, when asked, she replied: “I heard today that she does not meet the conditions ”, before adding: I do not know if this is true.
When asked for a reaction on Sunday, Harris said, “Look, I’m very clear-sighted that they’re going to engage, like you said, in what they’ve been doing throughout. this administration, which is right, let’s just be very candid and straightforward, they are going to indulge in lies, they are going to be wrong, they are going to try to distract from the real issues that impact the American people.
“I expect them to engage in dirty tactics and this is going to be a knockout blow,” Harris said. “And we are ready. And we are ready.
“There are so many stakes in this election and I am ready to fight, because it is a fight that is for something, not against something,” she said. “It’s a fight for where we need to be. And as you’ve heard me time and time again, I’m very, very clear that we need to focus on what can be relieved by what has been.
She added: “But as we also know, nothing, nothing that we have ever accomplished that has been about progress has come without a fight.”
Harris’s comments come after Chapman University law professor John C. Eastman wrote an article for Newsweek earlier this week after being nominated for the Democratic ticket asking if Harris is a “born citizen.” natural ”because her mother was born in India and her father was born in Jamaica.
Newsweek has since apologized, saying the editorial “is used by some as a tool to perpetuate racism and xenophobia. We apologize, ”Newsweek reportedly said in an editor’s note on Friday. “We absolutely did not anticipate how the essay would be interpreted, distorted and militarized.”
TRUMP CAMPAIGN DECLARES ‘PHONY’ KAMALA HARRIS
Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s presidential campaign has condemned the president for the remarks, referring to Trump’s past involvement, raising false claims that former President Barack Obama may not have been born in the States -United.
“Donald Trump was the national leader of the grotesque and racist birther movement against President Obama and sought to fuel racism and tear our nation apart every day of his presidency,” said Biden’s director of rapid response Andrew Bates to Fox News in a statement. “It is therefore not surprising, but no less odious, that as Trump makes a fool of himself by trying to distract the American people from the horrific toll of his failed response to the coronavirus, his campaign and their allies would resort to lies. miserable and manifestly false in their pathos. despair.”
But on Sunday, senior Trump campaign adviser Steve Cortes on “Fox News Sunday” defended the president, saying “it’s not an issue we’re going to pursue.”
Referring to the president’s comments at a press conference on Saturday, Cortes said: “He has stated that this is not something that we will pursue. He never mentioned it. The campaign never talked about it. Members of the media asked him about it trying to create a controversy that just doesn’t exist.
