Senior Trump campaign adviser Steve Cortes on Sunday rejected conspiracy theory questioning Kamala Harris’s running for vice-president as a “non-runner” after President Trump was criticized for not to have rejected this unfounded and largely refuted assertion.

Trump was first questioned on the matter Thursday during a White House press briefing after Chapman University law professor John C. Eastman wrote an article for Newsweek asking if Harris is a “born citizen” because his mother was born in India and his father was born in Jamaica.
Trump told reporters he “heard today that she did not qualify” before adding, “I don’t know if that’s true.”

Harris is an American citizen who was born in California in 1964, which makes her eligible for the office of President or Vice President under the Constitution.

Wallace noted that Trump “was given the opportunity to reject the false allegation” and questioned why he had refrained from exposing it entirely.
