More people than ever are broadcasting their gameplay, showing off their hobbies and honing their conversational skills as they interact with millions of people around the world. But with so many streamers, gamers, and content creators sharing their stories across the internet, it’s starting to get a bit overwhelming. Where do you start? Who are you following? Who is doing something unique, interesting and meaningful on all of the many streaming platforms?

It’s there that Collider Streamer of the Month Between! In this new series, we aim to showcase banners from all walks of life and around the world to bring your attention to people you might have otherwise missed. Up-and-coming players, innovators and trailblazers will be featured here, but let us know if there’s anyone out there we should be looking at. Who knows, you might see them featured here in the future!

Our first “Streamer of the Month” was @DeejayKnight, a Twitch partner and stage / show host with a passion for all things STEAM and a positive approach to life. The spirit of this Twitch projector continued with last month’s projector, the modern day Bob ross / The joy of painting This is Dave bullof @JapanesePrintmaking. But August brings us a streamer of a different kind, a group effort rather than a single player channel that brings entertaining speedruns of new and old games to viewers around the world, while also raising money for useful and vital charities. .

Games done quickly Has been running in-person speedrun events twice a year for years now, but 2020 has thrown a wrench into this work because it has so many other plans. Summer Games Done Quick 2020, aka SGDQ 2020, has chosen to go live in light of lingering concerns over coronaviruses. But unlike many other organizations, GDQ was prepared and ready for such a challenge as the Twitch channel was broadcasting one-off speedruns almost daily, reaching out to speedrunners who can show off their skills from the safety and comfort of their own home. Now the next 2020 QMS will be pretty much the same, just on a larger scale and for a sustained week of 24/7 programming, all with charitable intent.

While GDQ is entertaining enough on its own – you can check out the schedule of when your favorite runners will speed up your favorite games here – the real mission here is to raise money for charities like Doctors Without Borders. And you can do this in different ways: “All donations are made directly at Doctors Without Borders. GDQ’s August 2020 revenue from Twitch Subs and Bits, after tax, will be donated to Médecins sans frontières! But you can also get loot for yourself! Over the 148 speedruns, there are some 135 prizes available, which you can donate in the hopes of winning (but you’ll be helping charities anyway, so win / win). If you want guaranteed swag, be sure to head to the event sponsor pages to get some adorable material from FanGamer and The Yetee; the money of certain SGDQ 2020 purchases will be paid Doctors Without Borders!

GDQ does a fantastic job of educating both the speedrunning community and those who need services like Doctors Without Borders. However, their twice-a-year events are just two of the chain’s biggest fundraisers. You can support these charities year round by also supporting GDQ’s Twitch channel, which is there to keep you entertained between weeklong speedrunning marathons. All these reasons explain why GDQ is the streamer of the month for August 2020! Check them out today, starting at 11:30 am ET and (speed) into the early hours of Sunday, August 23!
