The 2020 NBA Playoffs begin tomorrow. The Western Conference is as stacked as ever and promises tantalizing matches from the first round. One of the most exciting contests will be between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Dallas Mavericks. The next superstar Luka Doncic will face Kawhi Leonard, MVP of the reigning finals.
The Clippers have notorious defenders on their roster, but the prospect of facing them isn’t worrying for the 21-year-old Slovenian. At a press conference, he was asked if he was ready for the mental battle of facing elite defenders.
“I’m not worried, I’m used to it,” Said Doncic. “I’ve been taking care of this for a few years. But yes, they are physical, that’s the other problem. They will talk. They have Patrick Beverley and then Paul George and Kawhi who are incredible defenders. They also have Zubac, who I think is also a very underrated internal defender. It’s going to be hard. We have to be physical.
Will Luka Doncic continue his playoff form?
After a great individual performance in the bubble, Doncic was elected to the All-Bubble first team. He’s almost averaged a triple-double in the seven games he’s played. He put in 30 points, 10.1 rebounds and 9.7 assists per game. But he was still unable to improve his shot beyond the arc.
The Mavericks have battled the Clippers all season, losing three of their three games to them. Doncic also underperformed against them. Although he averaged 29 points in the three games, he came out of the volume shot. He has an average of 40% of the field against them and a miserable 24% out of three.
The team have often been too dependent on him, and they’ll expect their star to improve when it counts. Many players collapse during the playoffs. So playing against the best defensemen in the playoffs will be the real test for Doncic.
Will the LA Clippers retain the title of one of the favorites and start with a win, or will dark horse Dallas Mavericks start with an upheaval? The battle begins this evening at 8 p.m.
