My partner hates playing games online, but this weekend i made him try Fall guys and now our relationship is in jeopardy.
Online games just aren’t for him. He doesn’t think interacting or relying on strangers should be a requirement to complete a game. Plus, he’s social enough in his offline life that he doesn’t need it in his online life. Knowing this, it’s no surprise that his video game tastes are turning to retro titles with a few notable exceptions (like the number of ungodly hours he’s been immersed in. Dragon Quest XI because he must, as he says, “literally finish everything”).
But I thought Mediatonic was cute and chaotic “Annihilate but make video games out of them ”(bet you thought I was gonna say Takeshi Castle) would be eccentric enough to pique her interest, so this weekend we gave it a try.
I warned him beforehand that the controls and the “chick with the severed head” could make it difficult for him to move his avatar. And when he started, he was having trouble moving. But it did not last. Not only did he qualify on his first try (which it took me days to accomplish), he qualified again, and a third time, reaching the final round where he was ultimately eliminated 4/6 at Hex-a-Gone. In a game he’s never played before, in a type of game that he actively avoids, he’s won almost everything.
Without any relation to any of this, I am now single.
