Recently Dark Sky for Android was taken away from us, all because Apple acquired the service for exclusive use on its own devices. However, the Dark Sky APIs that power it all up and make it the hyperlocal genius that it is, live on for now. They should be closed next year. Through a bit of reverse engineering and hacking from an undisclosed developer, Dark Sky for Android was born again as the Darker sky, like a phoenix rising from its ashes.

What you need to know is this: Darker Sky has most of the original Dark Sky features, at least all the free features. Paid features such as instant notifications, widgets, and weather report submissions are not functional. The things you will find in the free version of Dark Sky work great. These include the forecast, radar, and time machine.
Because Apple is known to be a little sticky when it comes to hacking and things of that nature, it’s unclear how long this app will be around. So if you want to give Darker Sky a try, I suggest you act quickly.
