ATHENS – The SEC released its full 2020 college football schedule through the SEC network on Monday, sending fans and players into a buzz.
Georgia football will play what has been touted by many as the biggest regular-season game of the season in Alabama on October 17.
It will be Georgia’s first trip to play in Alabama at Tuscaloosa since 2007, when former UGA quarterback Matthew Stafford led the Bulldogs to a 26-23 overtime victory.
The Crimson Tide have won the last five games against Georgia, including two since Kirby Smart was head coach by counts of 26-23 (OT) and 35-28, both in the playoffs.
Georgia learned earlier Monday that it will open the season on the Arkansas Road on Sept. 26 in Fayetteville. This is the same start date for all 14 SEC football programs.

“This is another stop on the journey,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said after the schedule was released.
“We need to keep making progress, people need to stay healthy, we need to be able to keep our teams focused on practice.

The Bulldogs play arguably the top two teams in the West Division in the form of the Tide and their rival Auburn Tigers.
Auburn and Tennessee promise to be physical matches leading up to Alabama’s game for Georgia, which UGA fans will take note of.
The annual Florida rivalry game – designated as Georgia’s home game this season – will be held a week later than scheduled on November 7.

Arkansas and Mississippi State, two teams expected to finish at or near the bottom of the West Division, were added to the UGA schedule by the SEC on August 7.
SEC teams have traditionally played an eight-game league schedule with four non-conference games, but the SEC has opted for a 10-game, conference-only schedule amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The league cited more flexibility in scheduling if games were to be postponed or canceled. The league-only slate also offers the assurance of uniform testing and protocol policies between competing teams.
“We have tried to create a schedule that is as competitive as possible and that builds on the eight Conference games already scheduled for 2020,” Sankey said of the inter-division games.
“This timeline is a one-year anomaly that we have developed under unique circumstances presented by the impact of COVID-19.”
Missouri have an open date ahead of playing Georgia
Open dates can be important. The Bulldogs remembered last season when South Carolina pulled off a 20-17 overtime rebound at Sanford Stadium.
The Gamecocks were one of five Georgian opponents last season to have an open date the week before playing the Bulldogs.
Georgia’s opening date this season comes before they play Florida. The Gators are also out the week before the rivalry game.
