Trump says he rejected cut in military health care

The President, in one of countless late-night tweets, said he had rejected a plan to cut the Pentagon’s health budget by $ 2.2 billion (£ 1.7 billion) .

Politico had previously reported that officials working for Mark Esper, the Defense Secretary with whom Mr. Trump had clashed over the use of soldiers for police protests in Washington DC, identified health coverage as a potential source of savings in an ongoing cost reduction review.

According to Politico, other defense officials had opposed the cutback in healthcare.

Mr. Trump tweeted: “We will not do anything to hurt our great professionals and military heroes while I am your president. Thank you!”
