Learned Eddie S. Glaude Jr. says the star-eyed Americans who now say they want equality will NEVER achieve it … without accepting the truth about the country’s roots in racism.
Glaude – an author and professor of African-American studies at Princeton – joined “TMZ Live” on Tuesday to address the major issue in our nation’s history … in essence, it’s not being said honestly.
The professor cites several examples of systemic racism and injustice that are much newer than slavery, but which are coated in sugar or outright omitted when teaching Americans about their past.
Glaude says it all manifests even today in what he calls the “value mismatch” … which is the belief that whites are more important than others.
Again, he points to specific things that are happening right now that make him feel that the “value gap” is still not closed – and believes that will crush any progress towards racial equality.
The good news … Glaude believes there is a positive dynamic with the Black Lives Matter movement, and offers a James baldwin hope quote that sums it up perfectly.
Speaking of Baldwin, Glaude’s new book on the author’s and activist’s struggle and his relationship with modern America, “Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own,” is available from now.
