Payless is making a comeback just in time for back to school with the launch of a new website on Tuesday.
“We’re back and bringing more community responsibility, cutting-edge footwear and trendy partnerships to our 60 million Payless customers who have been missed,” Payless CEO Jared Margolis said in a press release. “We saw an opportunity for the brand to relaunch itself in the US market, providing our community with the affordable, value-driven products that it has always sought, now in multiple categories, at a time when value could not. not be more critical. “
The shoe retailer has undergone a name change, removing “Shoesource” from its official brand, but it still plans to deliver “the same unprecedented commitment to providing value to their community, now through a range of apparel, accessories and shoes. “
The move comes after Payless announced in January that it was coming out of its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2019, which closed its remaining 2,100 sites in North America.

Payless also plans to open 300 to 500 independent stores across North America over the next five years, starting with the launch of the first prototype store in Miami, Florida, near the Payless headquarters. The retailer currently operates 700 stores internationally that have not been affected by the bankruptcy, including 298 franchisees and 412 in Latin and Central America.
The new stores will have an updated design that ‘reimagines the way we shop’, including new digital components such as smart mirrors, touchscreen wall panels and a ‘premier augmented reality foot comparison chart’ .
Payless said it will offer the same clothing, accessories and shoes as before. Consumers can now purchase various brands online including Airwalk, American Eagle, K-Swiss, Kendall + Kylie, and Aerosoles, among others.
