One of the two men who killed the father of great basketball player Michael Jordan almost 30 years ago was granted parole on Tuesday.

Demery and Green were both convicted of first degree murder – but accused each other of being the trigger.

As part of a plea deal, Demery testified against Green at trial, claiming he was the shooter. However, Green, who was also sentenced to life in prison, claimed that Demery asked him to help dispose of Jordan’s body but was not there during the murder.
Current state sentencing laws eliminate parole for crimes committed on or after October 1, 1994. However, offenders sentenced under previous directives are still eligible.

Demery’s release is conditional on his remaining in good standing as a prisoner. Green will not be eligible for parole until October 2021, according to local media WRAL.
